Waiting for the Sun

Waiting in the

waiting room

Chemo for dad

It all seems

so natural now,

not strange

and unbelievable.

Many people

were waiting here too,

all going though

the same natural

flow.

But they've

all left,

just me and

a few others

remain.

And a little

boy and his

father come in.

They are waiting

for mother.

The boy is tiny,

The father is huge.

They sit,

wait.

The father takes

up the entire

chair, the

chair takes up

the entire boy.

After a while,

mother comes out.

She is one

huge mother.

Got herself one

huge husband.

And together they

have this tiny

little boy.

He had

better not

learn too

much from them.

Then father shows

mother

a white box.

As soon as

mother sees the box,

a look of disgust

invades her face.

She is expecting

something to be wrong

with the contents

of the box, you can

tell.

The boy however

is very excited.

Slowly, she opens

the box, the disgusted

look still on her face.

But the boy's

eyes get very wide,

he is very excited by

what he sees in the box.

His face is like

the sun.

And the look of

disgust is still

on his mother's face.

And she says,

"It was supposed

to have been

German Chocolate"

And she is quite

pissed off.

And the boy notices

this, and his smile

begins to fade.

And the

father just looks

on, as fathers

often do.

And the boy,

who once saw the

sun, now sees

a little of what

we might call

reality.

Although it's not

the kind of

reality that needs

to be real, at any

time, for any reason.

Hey, don't worry boy,

I'm right there

with you.

I understand what

you're going through.

I go through it

all the time in

my life too.

Remember, one of the great

secrets of existence is:

Don’t  let others

take the light out

of your eyes.

The sun is up there

for a reason.

Never forget that.
