Fine, take it

They came in the night and they wanted to take it away.

They simply said, "Give it to us."

I didn't bother to put up a fight, they had their job to do and I had mine.

My job was to give them a key.

which I did, and they were gone,

which was fine.  Now I had one less earthly possession to worry about.

Still, I think I'm right in believing that I need to get it back.

And it's almost my birthday.

Happy Birthday, my friend.

Well, at least I learned something:

If something of yours is taken away, and you try to convince others that you haven't lost anything,

you can bet they won't

believe you.
